TO: WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/FIELD SERVICES SUBJECT: ANNUAL LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM - EL CAMINO REAL RECOMMENDATION: That the Tustin Community Redevelopment Agency of the City of Tustin, at their regular scheduled meeting on October 21, 1991 authorize staff to prepare specifications and solicit bids for the maintenance of the parkway within E1 Camino Real between First Street and Newport Avenue. Further, that staff be authorized to extend the present contract with Landscape West, Inc. through January 1992, to align this contract with similar work in East Tustin, thereby gaining the benefit of scale from prospective bidders. DISCUSSION: The maintenance of El Camino Real within the Tustin Redevelopment Area has historically been maintained by contract. Our present contract expired October 15, 1991. By extending this contract to January 1992, we can align the maintenance of El Camino Real in the redevelopment area with similar but separate work in the East Tustin Lighting and Landscape District. We feel that by bidding these two projects simultaneously the City could leverage the total cost due to the benefit of scale. The contract on El Camino Real covers sidewalk cleaning, tree and planter maintenance, trash pick-up and irrigation maintenance.
