The Tustin Public Schools Foundation is holding a 5K Dinosaur Dash
on Sunday December 1, 1991. The Foundation is raising funds to
provide teacher grants in the classroom, staff training, workshops
and seminars.
The Foundation is requesting that the Council waive fees for the
services of the Police and Public Works Departments. The Police
Department will be required for security and street closures. The
5K Run is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. and the 2K, at 9:00 a.m.
Awards will be presented immediately following the event at 10:00
a.m. It is estimated that the services of the Police Department
will be required for 4 hours. The Police Department has indicated
that it will rely upon the extensive use of Explorers to keep the
number of uniformed Officers required to two, which includes a
Sergeant. The hourly :,rate for the two Officers will be $36.50 and
$27.50 respectively. The total cost for the Officers' salaries for
four hours will be $256.00.
The Foundation is requesting that the fee be waived for a Temporary
Use Permit. This permit normally costs $75.00. In addition, the
estimated labor cost for the Public Works Department inspection to
verify traffic control set up and removal is $282. The Public
Works Department has offered to waive any fees for the rental of
barricades. Approximately 30-40 barricades and 500 delineators
will be required for the event. The Tustin Schools Foundation will
be responsible for picking up and placing the barricades and
delineators in order to reduce costs.
The City Council has the discretion to waive city fees as related
to this event. The Tustin Schools Foundation is a non-profit group
committed to improving the quality of education for local children.
