LOCAL PROGRAMMING ON COMMUNITY CABLEVISION
RECOMMENDATION:
Receive and file report.
BACKGROUND:
Pursuant to the request of Councilman Potts, staff investigated the
possibility of Community Cablevision expanding its existing amount
of local programming to those customers it serves in Tustin.
DISCUSSION:
Pete Eliason, General Manager of Community Cablevision, has
indicated that it is not possible to isolate Tustin residents from
their existing system. The other cities served by the system
(Irvine, Orange and Newport Beach) all receive the same
programming
Currently, Community Cablevision broadcasts up to 50 hours each
week of local origination programming, covering all of the areas it
serves. This includes live broadcasts of City Council meetings,
school sporting events, and other non-profit functions. Mr.
Eliason indicated that they would be very interested in covering
more Tustin events without utilizing Continental Cablevisions
tapes. He has indicated that a camera crew can be made available
to cover additional Tustin community events, such as Tiller Days,
should the City notify them of the event.
If you have any questions regarding this information, please let
me know.
