HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT STAFF SUBJECT: PROJECT MANAGEMENT SERVICES FOR LAUREL GLEN CONSTRUCTION RECOMMENDATION: To authorize a contract for project *anagement services for Laurel Glen Park with Century Management, Inc. at a rate of $62.50/hr, not to exceed $12,500. BACKGROUND: On November 4, 1991 the City Counctil authorized a. contract to construct Laurel Glen Park. To ensure that the project is completed according to the plans and Specifications and is built to the highest possible standards, the (Community Services Department has asked for project management proposals from three firms. The project management firm will represent the City by providing the following technical and professional services: • Conduct job site meetings. Provide site inspections. • Review and process change orders and shop drawings. Review progress payments. Review and monitor the construction schedule. Maintain quality control. Is Develop and enforce a projoct punch list. DISCUSSION: Proposals were received from three project management firms as follows: JSL Associates, Newport Beach Century Program Management, Los Angeles Construction Services, Inc., Santa Ana After a review of proposals, and a check of references from the above -listed firms, Community Servilces staff has determined that Century Program Management, Inc. is the best qualified to provide these services. The firm will provide the services through a branch office in Irvine. Century Program Management comes highly recommended from other municipal agencies throughout Southern California. They have assisted with similar public projects in Mission Viejo, Alhambra, and San Fernando. The Community Services Department has also determined that their services can be provided within the amount appropriated in the 1991-92 Capital Improvement Budget for Laurel Glen Park. Susan M.
