"WELCOME HOME THE TROOPS" CELEBRATIONS

As the City Council has directed, the Community Services staff has
incorporated a "Welcome Home the Troops" theme in its existing
programs:
Run for the Family, 5K/10K Run, May 18, 1991,
at the Tustin Marketplace
The finish area and staging will be decorated in.yellow
ribbon. The run has a special category for military
runners. Throughout the morning, announcements will be
made about the special County -wide parade honoring the
troops at 11:00 a.m. Other references to "Welcoming home
the Troops" will be incorporated in the script.
El Camino Real Chili Cook -off June 2 1991
Chili competitors will be encouraged to decorate their
booths with a patriotic theme. This year's chili tasting
buttons will be red, white, and blue with a yellow ribbon
incorporated in the design. The script will incorporate
a "Welcome Home" theme, and according to the Tustin
Marine Base, the Marines plan on participating with a
team once again this year.
July 4th Celebration, July 4, 1991
As always, the program will kick-off with the Marine
Color Guard. The program theme is "Proud to be an
American". The fireworks show salutes -all armed forces,
and provides a moment of silence for those who have
sacrificed their lives. The Mayor's speech will
highlight the sacrifices of all veterans, including those
from Vietnam and the Korean conflict, as suggested by
President Bush.

Tiller Days Parade, October 12, 1991
This year's theme is "Salute to the Red, White, and
Blue". Preliminary plans include yellow ribbons, and
flags on trees along the parade route.
Staff has contacted Colonel Johnston of the
rful Tustinreception rine Base. He
was overwhelmed and touched by the won from the
community. All the activities planned most certainly have his
blessing. He requested that. he be kept informed of all the
activities as much as possible. Staff agreed to do so.
