BACKGROUND NEW BUSINESS N0. 1 2-19-91 Inter - Com The City of Tustin Community Development Department is currently preparing for an important and exciting event to determine the future of Old Town Tustin. The City Council has asked that a community workshop precede development of any program to revitalize the commercial portions of Old Town Tustin. In response to this desire, the City with assistance from the Chamber of Commerce and a variety of outside technical resources will be sponsoring a whole day "charette" on Saturday March 16th from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A "charette" is a unique method for problem solving. The process is similar to brainstorming in that the purpose is to elicit input and provide an opportunity for new ideas to solve a given problem. The method will give members of the community, property owners and businesses within Old Town a unique and rewarding experience to engage in an active and participative learning experience, working together to develop a vision for revitalizing Old Town Tustin. The "Old Town Charette" will focus on specific topics: ° What are the assets and opportunities of our Old Town? What are the constraints? ° What are the critical social, economic, physical and environmental issues associated with Old Town? What type of place should Old Town Tustin become in the next century? ° What is it going to take to achieve our goals? Staff will use the "charette" process to help set the course for the future of Old Town. The ideas and information we compile will City Council Report Old Town Charette February 19, 1991 Page 2 be used as input to begin work on a revitalization plan for downtown that meets the community's needs. What we all do on March 16th will be exciting, productive, informative, and fun! We will all be able to share the pride of creating a thriving Old Town together.
