SUBJECT: UNDERGROUNDING OF OVERHEAD UTILITIES
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Tustin City Council approve the prioritized project list
(1 through 8 as listed below) for the undergrounding of overhead
utilities with the utilization of Edison Company Rule 20A monies.
BACKGROUND:
The Tustin City Council at their meeting of February 19, 1991
established a priority list of projects for the undergrounding of
overhead utilities within the community. This list is recapped
below with dates of implementation where applicable.
1. Prospect Avenue between First Street and Beneta Way (1992)
2. Yorba Street between First Street and Irvine Boulevard.
(1992)
3. First Street between the westerly City limits and Pasadena
Avenue (easterly of the SR55 Freeway) (1992-1993 to be
coordinated with the First Street bridge reconstruction)
4. Red Hill Avenue between Copperf ield Drive and the I-5
Freeway
5. Red Hill Avenue between the I-5 Freeway and Bryan Avenue
6. Bryan Avenue/Main Street between Red Hill Avenue and
Newport Avenue
7. Main Street between "C" Street and the SR55 Freeway
8. E1 Camino Real between Newport Avenue and Browning'Avenue
DISCUSSION:
The funding source for these above-mentioned projects would be
Southern California Edison Company Rule 20A monies. Currently, the
City is allocated approximately $155,000 of Rule 20A monies per
year.
Based upon 1991 dollars and current Rule 20A allotments, it is
estimated that it will take sixteen years to fund the above
mentioned projects.
The above-mentioned projects would
all overhead utilities consisting of
television facilities. The cost of
service conversions would remain the
property owners.
