SUBJECT: VEHICLE PARKING AT CAMINO REAL PARR
RECOMMENDATION:
Pleasure of the City Council.
BACKGROUND:
The City Council at a previous meeting requested staff to return a
report addressing safe on -street parking adjacent to Camino Real
Park as it relates to the following uses:
1. One space for handicapped parking.
2. One space for the loading/unloading of passengers
and equipment.
DISCUSSION:
Staff has surveyed the Camino Real Park site and determined the
best location for either on -street parking or a parking bay would
be on Parkcenter Lane, between Pima and Parkview Way. This
determination is based upon the location of the three-way stop at
Parkview Way and Parkcenter Lane and the topography of the park
site. See attached sketch for the recommended location.
Alternative I would consist of placing one handicapped space and
one passenger and equipment loading/unloading space on the street
adjacent to the existing curb. The cost for this alternate is
estimated to be approximately $200. This alternative would require
any bicyclist to traverse around any vehicles that may be present.
It is not anticipated that there would be any long term parking on
the street for the intended uses.
Alternative II would consist of placing one handicapped space, and
one passenger and equipment loading/unloading space within a
recessed parking bay. This alternative would provide an
unobstructed travel area for bicyclists adjacent to the existing
curb. Cost for this alternate is estimated to be between $12,000
and $15,000.
Based upon an overall traf f is safety issue, staf f would suggest the
implementation of Alternative II.
