CONSENT CALENDAR NO.9

Inter - Com
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
SUBJECT: MILITARY LEAVE - SUPPLEMENTAL COMPENSATION
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council adopt Resolution Number 91-22 which provides for
continuation of City compensation for City employees called to active
military duty during the Middle East war.
DISCUSSION
The City currently provides for continuation of full salary and benefits
for City employees on active military reserve status for a maximum of
(- thirty (30) days per year. Given the current situation, staff feels it
would be appropriate to extend this benefit through June 30, 1991, at
which time the City Council would decide whether to extend it further.
Under. Resolution Number 91-22, the affected employees would receive the
difference between military pay and City compensation, including fringe
benefits. This would apply only to full-time City employees and would
not apply if the military draft was reinstated. It is estimated that up
to three employees could be called to active duty because of the war.
The cost of providing this benefit would be absorbed within the approved
budget.
