TO: WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
REPORTS NO. 2
1-21-91
Inter - Com
FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/FIELD SERVICES DIVISION
SUBJECT: PROPOSED REVISIONS TO STREET SWEEPING SCHEDULES
INFORMATION REPORT
RECOMMENDATION:
Receive and file.
BACKGROUND:
As a result of the recent Arroyo Associates Study of the Public
Works Department, Field Services Division will be implementing
new street sweeping routes/schedules during the week of January
21, 1991 on a demonstration program. This program is being
implemented to evaluate the cost benefits and effectiveness of
the consolidation and rerouting of the street sweeping program
to reduce overall operational costs.
These modifications may change the times of day that a specific
area is swept and may require an adjustment of the hours of the
"No Parking" restrictions posted in some streets throughout the
City. In no event will the hours of restricted parking be
adjusted prior to 9:00 a.m. This should address the past
concerns that have been expressed by various residents affected
by the restrictions. Generally, the existing street sweeping
operation follows the day after the residential solid waste
pick-up date. This will remain the same for most of the City,
but there may be some areas of deviation.
This memo has been prepared as an information item to the City
Council so that they may respond to any residents that may
approach them with questions on these changes.
