HUSTON, CITY MANAGER CONSENT -CALENDAR NO. 18 1-7-91 Inter - Com PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL AND STREET IMPROVEMENTS AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS RECOMMENDATION: That the Tustin City Council at their meeting of January 7, 1991 adopt the attached resolution approving plans and specifications for subject project and directing the City Clerk to advertise for bids. BACKGROUND: This project will provide for the construction of traffic signal and street improvements as follows: 1. new traffic signal and safety lighting installation at Bryan Avenue and Farmington Road. 2. new traffic signal, safety lighting, signing and striping installation and street improvements at Yorba Street and Vandenberg Lane, including traffic signal coordination with 17th Street. 3. modification to the existing traffic signal at Red Hill Avenue and Bryan Avenue to provide protected left -turn movements in all directions. 4. modification to the existing traffic signal at Red Hill Avenue and Mitchell Avenue to provide protected left -turn movements from Red Hill Avenue to Mitchell Avenue. 5. modification to the existing traffic signal at Walnut Avenue and Browning Avenue to provide protected left - turn movements from Walnut Avenue to Browning Avenue. The Engineer's Estimate for the above-mentioned work is $441,000.00 and will be funded with the FY 90-91 Capital Improvement Program. WHEREAS, it is the intention of the City Council of the City of Tustin, California to contract the construction of traffic signal and street improvements as follows: 1. New traffic signal and safety lighting installation at Bryan Avenue and Farmington Road. 2. New traffic signal, safety lighting, signing striping installation, and street improvements at Yorba Street and Vandenberg Lane, including traffic signal coordination with 17th Street 3. Modification to the existing traffic signal at Red Hill Avenue and Bryan Avenue to provide protected left -turn movements in all directions. 4. WHEREAS, the City Engineer has presented plans and specifications for the construction of said work; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the plans and specifications presented by the City Engineer be and are hereby approved as the plans and specifications for: Construction of Traffic Signal and Street Improvements at Various Locations BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to advertise as required by law for the receipt of sealed bids or proposals for the doing of the work specified in the aforesaid plans and specifications; 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9' 10' 11 12 13 14 I 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this project is categorically exempt from the requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act; Class I: Existing Facilities and Class III: Minor New Facilities. PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Tustin, held on the 7th day of January, 1991.
