SUSJECli FIRE HYDRANT STATUS ON LOCKWOOD PARK PLACE, "D" STREET AND
ORANGEWOOD LANE
RECOMMENDATION:
Receive and file.
BACKGROUND:
At the February 6, 1989 City Council meeting, Councilman Kelly raised a
concern regarding fire hydrant sizes and fire flows on Lockwood Park
Place, "D" Street and Orangewood Lane in the vicinity of Mullin Lumber
Company.
DISCUSSION:
Staff has reviewed the area in question and determined that adequate
fire flows exist within the neighborhood area of Lockwood Park Place,
"D" Street and Orangewood Lane. In Spring of 1988, the City installed
new water mains and fire hydrants along Lockwood Park Place and "D" -
Street, and along a portion of Prospect Avenue.
New 6" diameter fire hydrants were installed at the southwesterly corner
of Prospect Avenue and Lockwood Park Place, between 145 and 155 Lockwood
Park Place, between 110 and 160 "D" Street, and at the southwesterly
corner of Prospect Avenue and Orangewood Lane. An existing 2-1/2"
diameter fire hydrant still exists at the southeasterly corner of "D"
Street and Orangewood Lane. This hydrant is still functional and
provides' a minimal fire flow of 200-300 gallons per minute, but it is
not required for fire flow demands in the subject area. The four new 6"
diameter fire hydrants adequately serve the residential area in
question.·
