HUSTON, CITY MANAGER ~sov.u,~xo~ m~}u~s~-z~ ~ , J Councilman Kelly has requested that the City Council consider the attached resolution. J RESOIAITION BY T~E CITY O2D/qCIL OF TUSTIN ABO ION C r BR OF ORANGZ Whereas, one unalienable right in the United States of America, as the Declaration of Independence affirms so eloquently, is the right to life. In the 16 years since the Supreme Court's decision in R~e v. Wade, hc~ever, America's unborn have been denied their right to Whereas, among the tragic and unspeakable results in the past decade and a half have been the loss of life of over 22 million infants before birth; the pressure and anguish of countless women and girls who are driven to abortion; and a cheapening of respect for the human person and the sanctity of human life; Whereas, those who champion the right to life kn~ the distress and anxieties that drive s~me wcmen to c~nsider abortion. The most moving testimony to our reverence for human life has been the generous, even heroic efforts made by so many religious and charitable organizations to help women with problem pregnancies and to facilitate the adoption of infants into families eager to give them love and care; Whereas, those who w~rk to restore legal protection to the unborn do so with the knowledge that they have gone to the defense of the weak, the silent, the endangered. But that is not scmething new. %~enever disasters have endar~3ered human life, we Americm_ns have always r~sponded swiftly and selflessly; Whereas, all medical and scientific evidence increasingly affirms that children before birth share all the basic attributes of human personality -- that they in fact are persons. Modern medicine treats unborn ohildren as patients. New science should prcmote new law; $'~ereas, the citizens of .Tustin have in their midst a business that prcraotes the antithesis of life -- the killing of innocent human beings. Then be it, Resolved, that the city council of the city of Tustin hereby disapproves of, as morally reprehensible and as ethically unconscionable, the presence of the "Abortion Center of Orange County" within the city limits of Tustin, and its existence in principle.
