TO: WILLIAM HusToN, CITY MANAGER FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/FIELD SERVICES DIVISION SUBJECT: REQUEST Fo'R TREE REMOVALS RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council approve the Public Works Departments' recommendation on tree removals as shown on the attached exhibit. BACKGROUND: The attached is a consolidation of requests which have been received from various' property owners regarding trees within the public-right-of-way. In all cases, with the exception of commercial areas, adjacent property owners have been surveyed and the results are so indicated. All trees will be removed and replaced by City crews. Replacement will be with a tree of acceptable species from the City's approved list, as stated in the specific recommendation. Foley 17291 Bergen Cir. 838-4717 That the City remove, two Carrotwoods and one Bottle Tree due to surface roots on the Carrotwoods breaking their irrigation system. STAFF EVALUATION: The trees have root systems typical to their growth and age, sidewalk has been replaced with in the last six months. Not Listed That the City remove, one Mimosa Tree and Pistachio Tree from parkway due to excessive foliage droppings. STAFF EVALUATION: NEIGHBOR RESPONSE: RECOMMENDATION: ESTIMATED COST: The Mimosa Tree was a weak root system and appears to have root rot. The Pistachio, is a small root bound tree that is in decline. STAFF EVALUATION: Tree was planted eleven years ago. The recently constructed building has an entrance that is directly perpendicular to tree well and trunk of tree. NEIGHBOR RESPONSE: RECOMMENDATION: Commercial area, no poll taken Remove tree at City's cost. As a possible hazard, and do not replace, and cement well over. ESTIMATED COST: Total Cost to remove tree, and cement oVer existing tree well is $200.00.
