"LIVING TRE~SURE- PROGRAM
RECOMMENDATION=
Pleasure of the City Council.
BACKGROUND=
Council directed staff to agendize this potential program. Council
endorsed the concept, whose.purpose would be to acknowledge people
who have made a contribution to the Tustin area community, and to
do so w~ile they are.still alive. Too often, people who have
contributed to the quality of life in their community are not
honored until after they pass away. The concept of a "Living
Treasure" program is excellent; however, staff needs direction
regarding the City Council's wfshes. For example, would the
Council prefer that a certain.set criteria be utilized and all
nominations be measured against that criteria, or would Council
prefer that individual citizens and/or Council members could
nominate anyone and the Council consider the nominations on a case-
by-case basis? Would the Council like to be the selection
committee of this Living Treasure program, or would the Council
prefer a citizens committee? Would the Council expect that being
appointed a Living Treasure would take with it a special City
Council Proclamation, or would the honor consist of something else?
At this point, perhaps it would be appropriate for the City Council
to discuss its vision for the program criteria, in order to give
staff direction for its initial formation.
