RECOMMENDATION:
That the Tustin City Council, at their regular meeting of June 5, 1989, award
the contract for miscellaneous traffic signal improvements and the installation
of flashing beacons to the low bidder, Steiny and Company, in the amount of
$205,900 and authorize a supplemental 1988-89 budget appropriation of general
fund money in the amount of $9,000 to cover the additional cost of
non-assessment district related work.
BACKGROUND: '
In May, 1989, the City Council authorized the advertisement of bid~ for
construction Of miscellaneous traffic signal improvements at various locations
and the installation of flashing beacons at Yorba Street/Amaganset Way and at
Prospect Avenue/Beneta Way. This work consisted of the following'
°New traffic signal installation at BryAn and Browning Avenues
°Miscellaneous controller modifications and activation of interconnect
system within the East Tustin area
°Replacement of traffic controller at San Juan Street and Red Hill Avenue
°Installation of flashing beacons at Yorba/Amaganset and Prospect/Beneta
Funds for these projects have been budgeted as follows'
°Bryan/Browning signal installation and interconnect improvements
Assessment District No. 85-1 $170,000
°San Juan/Red Hill signal modification
General Fund
$ 17,000
°Flashing Beacons on both Yorba Street and Prospect Avenue
General Fund $ 28,000
DISCUSSION:
Bids for these traffic signal improvements were opened on May 30, 1989 at 2'00
p.m. and are tabulated as follows'

The low bid of $205,900 is 7.2% over the EngineerWs estimate of $192,000.
It will 'be necessary fo~ the City Council to authorize a supplemental 1988-89
general fund budget appropriation in the amount of $9,000 to cover the cost of
