WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT
SUBJECT: LAMBERT SCHOOL LEASE RENEWAL
RECOMMENDATION
CONSENT CALENDAR NO. 10
1-15-90
Inter - Com
To renew the lease with the Tustin Unified School District for use
of Lambert School for a period of one year commencing on February
11 1990, and ending January 31, 1991, and authorize the Mayor to
execute the same fiscal impact.
FISCAL IMPACT
The lease fee for 1990/91 is $22,560 which reflects a 7 percent
increase to cover increased costs of maintenance for the building.
Sufficient revenue is generated from the programs held at Lambert
to cover the costs of the lease fee.
BACKGROUND
At the January 8, 1990, meeting of the Board of Education, the
Board approved the extension of the lease of Building C at Lambert
School to the City of Tustin for the period of February 1, 1990,
through January 31, 1991.
The School District still has not decided whether or not the
relocation of Tustin High School classes from the main campus to
Lambert School due to the I-5 widening will be necessary. If the
District decides the space will be needed for classrooms, the
Agreement provides that the City must be notified in writing at
least six months prior in order to terminate the agreement.
Since 1979 the City has leased approximately 6000 square feet in
classroom space from the Tustin Unified School District. Lambert
School houses numerous recreation classes for children and adults,
a tiny tot program, day camp programs, and provides occasional
meeting space or practice facilities from many other community
groups.
As a part of the Agreement the School District provides
maintenance, repairs and utilities. The annual lease is a cost
effective way providing Community Services programs. Lambert has
become a very valuable and necessary recreation facility until more
City owned facilities are built or acquired. The renewal of this
lease is essential for the City to maintain high level of service
provided to the Community.
Attached for your information is the Amendment to the existing
lease.

Re: Lambert Lease Extension
Dear Susan,
At the meeting of January 8, 1990, the Board of Education
approved extension of the lease of Building "C" at Lambert School
to the City of Tustin, for the period of February 1, 1990 through
January 31, 1991. A nominal increase in the monthly rental is
included in order to cover current and anticipated cost increases
for the ensuing year. The new rental amount is $1,880 per month.
Please note that the possibility of relocating Tustin High School
classes from the main campus to Lambert School exists due to the
I-5 expansion. In that case, we may terminate the lease prior to
January 31, 1991, with six months written notice as provided for
in the lease agreement.
Enclosed are two signed Amendment #7 pages for the extension.
Please return one executed copy when the lease extension has been
approved by the City.
If you have any questions, please call me at (714) 730-7329.
Sincerely,
Paul Fisher
