BACKGROUND: At a previous City Council meeting, staff was requested to review areas throughout the City for the potential placement of solid waste/trash receptacles adjacent to the OCTD bus stop locations. Staff has inventoried the entire City, with the exception of the East Tustin area, and has determined that there are one hundred thirty-three (133) active bus stops. Not all of these locations require the recep- tacles but only those within the close proximity of the fast food/ nvenience mart establishments. Six of the locations currently have receptacles (55 gallon drum containers) as follows: 1. Newport Avenue - West side, south of El Camino Real 2. First Street - North side, east of Centennial Way 3. First Street - South side, east of Fashion Lane (at Larwin - North side, Square) 2 containers 4. McFadden Avenue - North side, west of Myrtle Avenue 5. Nisson Road - South side, east of Newport Avenue 6. Nisson Road - South side, west of Red Hill Avenue An additional sixteen locations with a close proximity to convenience mart establishments, or where litter problems identified, are suggested for the placement of containers as 1. Prospect Avenue - East side north of First Street 2. First Street - North side, west of Newport Avenue 3. First Street - North side, east of Centennial Way 4. Seventeenth Ave.- North side, west of Yorba Street (N) 15. McFadden Ave. - North side, west of Williams Street 16. Walnut Ave. - South side, east of Newport Avenue Several types of receptacles are available consisting of materials such as plastic, wood, metal and concrete. Staff would suggest the concrete type of receptacles due to their durability and stability. The precast concrete receptacles range from $190.00 to $500.00 per unit. Any of the units could contain either the City's name or logo which could be cast into the walls of the unit. The concrete units would range in weight from 200-600 pounds. It is suggested that the City initially purchase twenty-five units to be placed at- the twenty-two previously mentioned locations with the remaining three being used as replacement units. In the event the City Council desires to proceed with the purchase of these receptacles, it is quested City Council designate the material type, color, etc., and .aff will return with brochures, photos, and more defined costs so that funds may be budgeted for these items.
