HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: POLICE DEPARTMENT SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR AUTHORIZATION FOR CAPITAL EXPENDITURE - Recommendation Purchase one replacement police dog and related equip- ment from Adlerhorst Kennels, Riverside, California, at a total cost of $9,434.00. Background In the current fiscal year budget, the City Council authorized the purchase of one replacement canine upon the retirement of Canine Fello. Fello will be officially retired on March 1, 1990. We have a reserved training spot for this replacement team to begin March S, 1990. Since our Canine Program began in 1981, we have used Adlerhorst Kennels exclusively. All our current canines have been purchased and trained through Adlerhorst, a kennel recognized as the premiere training facility west of the Mississippi. The only vendor within several hundred mils is in the San Fernando Valley. Although the prices at doth kennels are competitive, the training is not con-sistent with our current program. We have received excellent service from Adlerhorst Kennels for seven years while they helped to implement and sustain our most successful program. Consequently, we request permission to purchase from our current vendor. W. DOUGLAS FRAN S Chief of Police WDF : dh COST PROJECTIONS - K-9 REPLACEMENT 1. German Shepard K-9 $5350.00 2.
