SUBJECT: RED HILL AVENUE AND WALNUT AVENUE STREET IMPROVEMENTS -
STATUS REPORT
RECOMMENDATION:
Receive and file.
BACKGROUND:
Recently the City improved the intersection at Red Hill and Walnut
avenues with the widening of each street adjacent to the Nisson
property at the northeasterly corner of the intersection.
As a result of these improvements on the easterly side of Red Hill
Avenue, it was necessary to modify the travel lane configurations and
to remove a certain amount of on -street parking along Walnut Avenue
westerly of Red Hill Avenue. The on -street parking removal was
cessary to provide a smooth and safe transition across the Red Hill
Atersection.
When the parking was initially removed, many concerns were raised by
both the managers and residents of the apartment developments adjacent
to Walnut Avenue. Since the re -striping and removal of parking has
been in effect the past three weeks, the concerns/complaints have been
minimal. Staff will continue to monitor this area and advise the City
Council if any additional problems arise.
