SUBJECT: PART-TIME SALARY ADJUSTMENTS
RECOMMENDATION:

That City Council adopt Resolution No. 90-30, adjusting part-time
salaries.
BACKGROUND:
The part-time positions listed in the part-time salary schedule
have not been adjusted since July 4, 1988, and the Police
Department has submitted information with a request to review and
amend the part-time schedule as appropriate. The salary
information submitted by the Police Department has been reviewed
and the results reveal the following:
Difference from
Median Salary Tustin Salary the Median
Crossing Guard
Coordinator $ 7.13 $ 8.34 4.5% above
Crossing Guard 6.25 7.28 14.2% above
Administrative
Intern 7.83 7.25 8% below
Police Aide 7.30 7.17 1.8% below
The Crossing Guard Coordinator is not a position that is used
commonly throughout the county, so it is a small survey group. The
Crossing Guard position, however, is very common and only one city
of the ten in our survey group does not have a Crossing Guard. The
salary set for the Coordinator is generally driven by that of
Crossing Guard. Neither of these positions are recommended to be
increased at this time; the City is not below the median, and we
have been able to stay sufficiently staffed, so we are not pulling
Police Officers from their normal duties to help in this area.

Both of the other part-time positions are lower than the median;
although the Police Aide is only slightly lower. Since the Police
Aide position is in the clerical series, it is consistent to give
them the same amount of increase the rest of the clerical staff
received on January 1, 1990, which is 5.5%.
The Administrative Intern position is
