DISCUSSION
JWA On February 6th and 7th, staff attended the Fifth Annual
Airport Noise Symposium with Kathy Weil. Attendees came from
across the U.S., Canada and Korea. Presentations focused on past
failures to protect airports from urban encroachment, FAA PART 150
studies to establish compatible use zones around airports and
implement noise impact mitigation programs (such as sound
insulation for homes within the 65 CNEL), the lack of available,
realistic sites for new airports (including Orange County) and the
military's commitment to maintain the integrity of their "master"
jet bases (including MCAS E1 Toro). Overall, both staff and Kathy
Weil thought the Symposium was a worthwhile experience.
Staff will present a report on a noise monitoring system at the
March 5th Council meeting.
The County Airport Land Use Commission (ALUC) is expected to
discuss/review a cumulative impact study of high rise development
on navigational aids at their meeting on March 15, 1990. Staff
will continue to monitor this issue.
The City's press release for a citizen representative on airport
issues was published in Tustin Today on February 9th. Staff
intends to bring this item back to the Council at their March 5th
meeting.
