HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT CONSENT CALENDAR NO. 6 3-19-90 Inter - Com SUBJECT: AWARD OF BID - REPLACEMENT OF CLIMBING STRUCTURE FOR CENTENNIAL PARK, SAND LOT 12 RECOMMENDATIONS 1. The City Council award the contract for subject park improvements to Hanson Associates, Inc. of Orange in the amount of $12,916.80. 2. Appropriate an additional $920.00 to complete the project. BACKGROUND In February, 1990, the City Council authorized advertisements for bids for replacement of the climbing structure for Centennial Park Sand Lot #2. The climbing structure includes swings, slides, and various climbing apparatus. DISCUSSION Bid packages were sent to seven firms. Two companies responded with bids. The bids for the project were March 5, 1990, at 10:00 a.m. and were received as follows: Miracle Recreation, Huntington Beach, CA ..... $14,997.00 Hanson and Associates, Orange, CA............$12,916.80 The bid includes delivery and installation. Only $12,000 was appropriated for the project in the 1989/90 Capital Improvement Budget. In order to complete the project Council needs to appropriate an additional $920.00 is requested to fully fund the project. Hanson Associates is a reputable firm which has previous experience with the City. Hanson installed the play equipment at Camino Real Park which has proved to be very popular with the children in that neighborhood. Susan M.
