PKGNG LGHTNG 03-19-90W V DATE: TO: FROM: r MARCH 13, 1990 WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER NEW.tBUSINESS NO. 4 3-19-90 Inter - Com PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION SUBJECT: COLUMBUS TUSTIN PARK PARKING LOT LIGHTING That the Tustin City Council authorize the installation of one 16,000 lumen high pressure sodium vapor luminaire on the existing wood utility pole located on the easterly side of Prospect Avenue between the two parking lot ingress/egress driveways. BACKGROUND: At a recent meeting, the City Council raised a concern regarding the parking lot lighting at Columbus Tustin Park and at the parking lot ingress/egress driveways at Prospect Avenue. _ DISCUSSION: The current parking lot was constructed in late 1979 and has three 150 watt high pressure sodium vapor lights located along the center of the parking lot (East-West axis) and spaced at 50 ft., 175 ft. and 300 ft. easterly of the Prospect Avenue sidewalk. Along the Prospect Avenue frontage of the parking lot there are no street lights on the easterly side of Prospect Avenue. On the westerly side of Prospect Avenue at the southwesterly corners of both Miller Drive and Westbury Lane there is a conventional 16,000 lumen high pressure sodium vapor street light at each corner. It is staff's opinion that the existing three parking lot lights are sufficient for the existing parking lot development. It is our under- standing that this parking lot will be modified and enlarged in late Summer of 1990. At that time the parking lot lighting system should be re-evaluated and modified if determined appropriate. The ingress/egress driveways to Prospect Avenue could utilize additional lighting. This could be accomplished by installing one 16,000 lumen high pressure sodium vapor luminaire on the wood utility pole on the easterly side of Prospect Avenue and between the two parking lot drive- ways. This installation of the street light luminaire on the existing wood utility pole would require no capital expenditure, but only the monthly energy and maintenance charge by Edison Company at the approximate rate of $11.00 per luminaire per month. These energy/maintenance cost would be funded from the lighting district revenues received from the County of Orange. Bob Ledendecker Director of Public Works/City Engineer
