BACKGROUND: At the March 5, 1990 City Council meeting, the Council authorized the under - grounding of all overhead utilities across Sixth Street at the "B" Street _intersection. The estimated cost for this undergrounding was $35,000.00 for '1 affected utilities based upon the undergrounding of both electrical and ,lephone facilities utilizing the Rule 20A procedures. Under Rule 20A procedures, a minimum of 600 lineal feet of Edison Company facilities must be undergrounded. On March 5th, the City Council authorized the utility undergrounding project be funded with Town Center Redevelopment Agency monies and requested staff to return with a confirming action to the March 19, 1990 Redevelopment Agency meeting. DISCUSSION: Since the undergrounding project would not be funded by Rule 20A monies, it is suggested that the scope of the project be reduced to underground only the telephone company facilities in an amount of $12,000.00 as outlined in Mr. Thompson's letter. Mr. Thompson's letter did not indicate the need to under- ground the electrical utilities. Bob Ledendecker Director of Public Works/City Engineer .BL:mv
