SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL
MODIFICATIONS AT NINE INTERSECTION LOCATIONS
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Tustin City Council at their meeting of April 17, 1990 adopt
the attached resolution approving the plans and specifications for the
subject project and directing the City Clerk to advertise for bids.
BACKGROUND:
This project will provide for the construction of traffic signal
improvements as follows:
1. Modifications to the existing traffic signals to provide
protected left turn phasing at the following locations:
* Irvine Boulevard and Holt Avenue
* Irvine Boulevard and Prospect Avenue
* Irvine Boulevard and Red Hill Avenue
* Newport Boulevard and Bryan Avenue
* Newport Avenue and Holt Avenue
* Newport Avenue and Main Street
* Red Hill Avenue and Sycamore Avenue
2. Modifications to the existing traffic signal controllers
at the fallowing locations:
* Jamboree Road and Bryan Avenue
* Jamboree Road and El Camino Real
3. Signing and striping modifications on Holt Avenue between
Irvine Boulevard and Newport Avenue.
The engineer's estimate for the above-mentioned work is $220,000.00 and
will be funded with FY 89-90 General Fund monies ($203,000.00),
Redevelopment Agency monies ($11,000.00) and Assessment District No.
85-1 monies ($11,000.00 - estimated).

RESOLUTION NO. 90-48
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING PLANS AND
SPECIFICATIONS FOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL MODIFICA-
CATIONS AT IRVINE BOULEVARD AND HOLT AVENUE,
IRVINE BOULEVARD AND PROSPECT AVENUE, IRVINE
BOULEVARD AND RED HILL AVENUE, JAMBOREE ROAD AND
BRYAN AVENUE, JAMBOREE ROAD AND EL CAMINO REAL,
NEWPORT AVENUE AND BRYAN AVENUE, NEWPORT AVENUE
AND HOLT AVENUE, NEWPORT AVENUE AND MAIN STREET,
AND RED HILL AVENUE AND SYCAMORE AVENUE, AND
SIGNING AND STRIPING MODIFICATIONS ON HOLT AVENUE
BETWEEN IRVINE BOULEVARD AND NEWPORT AVENUE, AND
DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS.
WHEREAS, it is the intention of the City Council of the
City of Tustin, California to contract construction of traffic
signal modifications at Irvine Boulevard and Holt Avenue, Irvine
Boulevard and Prospect Avenue, Irvine Boulevard and Red Hill
Avenue, Jamboree Road and Bryan Avenue, Jamboree Road and El
Camino Real, Newport Avenue and Bryan Avenue, Newport Avenue and
Holt Avenue, Newport Avenue and Main Street, and Red Hill Avenue
and Sycamore Avenue, and signing and striping modifications on
Holt Avenue between Irvine Boulevard and Newport Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the City Engineer has presented plans and
specifications for the construction of said work;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the plans and
specifications presented by the City Engineer be and are hereby
approved as the plans and specifications for:
Construction of traffic signal modifications at Irvine
Boulevard and Holt Avenue, Irvine Boulevard and
Prospect Avenue, Irvine Boulevard and Red Hill Avenue,
Jamboree Road and Bryan Avenue, Jamboree Road and E1
Camino Real, Newport Avenue and Bryan Avenue, Newport
Avenue and Holt Avenue, Newport Avenue and Main
Street, and Red Hill Avenue and Sycamore Avenue and
signing and striping modifications on Holt Avenue
between Irvine Boulevard and Newport Avenue; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby
authorized and directed to advertise as required by law for the
receipt of sealed bids or proposals for the doing of the work
specified in the aforesaid plans and specifications;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this project is categorically
exempt from the requirements of the California Environmental
Quality Act; Class I: Existing Facilities and Class III: Minor
New Facilities.
