SUBJECT: IRVINE BOULEVARD PARKING PROHIBITION
RECOMMENDATION:

BACKGROUND:
At the June 18, 1990 City Council meeting, Ms. Monta Harvey,
representing the Palmwood Condominium Homeowners Association, raised a
concern about the recent implementation of the parking prohibition along
Irvine Boulevard easterly of Prospect Avenue. Palmwood Condominiums are
located on the southerly side of the street in the 17872-17978 block of
Irvine Boulevard.
As a part of the mitigation measures for the Caltrans freeway related
reconstruction, it was determined that the removal of parking along both
sides of Irvine Boulevard would be required between Yorba Street and
approximately 1000 feet easterly of Prospect Avenue. The signage for
the parking prohibition was recently installed during the week of June
11, 1990.
The City Council requested staff to re-evaluate the parking prohibition
along Irvine Boulevard adjacent to the Palmwood Condominiums as a result
of the concerns raised by Ms. Harvey.
DISCUSSION:
The parking prohibition along the southerly side of Irvine terminated at
approximately 260 feet easterly of the Palmwood Condominiums westerly
property line. Staff has re-evaluated the easterly termination of
parking prohibition and determined it could be moved in a westerly
direction a maximum of 130 feet.
This revision would restore six on -street parking spaces adjacent to the
condominium development and result in a net loss of three spaces to the
condominium development.
Staff has contacted Ms. Harvey on this change and it appears that she
finds this solution acceptable. A copy of this report has been
forwarded to Ms. Harvey.
