AWARD OF CONTRACT - REPLACEMENT OF PLAY STRUCTURE AT
PINE TREE PARR
Recommendation
That City Council award the contract for subject park improvements
to Landscape Structures in the amount of $25,736.27.
Background
On May 8, 1990, the City Council authorized advertisements for
bids, for replacement of the play structures at Pine Tree Park.
The play structures will include a multi level climber and a tot
lot.
Discussion
Bid packages were sent to four firms. Two companies responded with
bids. The bids for the subject project were opened June 12, 1990
at 10 a.m. and were received as follows:
Miracle Recreation Equipment Co .......... $24,639.00
Landscape Structures, Inc................$25,736.27
The bid includes delivery and installation and is below the $30,000
budgeted to replace the equipment. While the Landscape Structures
bid is higher than Miracle Recreation Equipment by $1,097.27, the
Landscape Structures bid provides two more play elements, as
required by the specifications, than does the Miracle bid. After
review by the City Attorney and City Engineer's office as well as
Community Services Department staff, it was determined that the
Landscape Structures bid is a better value.
Landscape Structures, Inc. is a reputable firm which has done work
for the city previously. Most recently, they installed the play
equipment at Camino Real Park in 1989 which is in good condition
and has been quite popular with families in the neighborhood.
Generally it takes 6 to 8 weeks to order the equipment which should
be installed by the end of August 1990.
