Inter- Com
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION
SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS FOR TRAFFIC SIGNALS
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Tustin City Council adopt the attached resolution accepting
works of improvement and authorize the recordation of the notice of
completion for the traffic signal improvements.
Assuming no claims or stop notices are filed, it is further recommended
that 30 days after date of recordation of the notice of completion, the
City Council authorize payment of the final 10% retention amount of
$24,603.50. This amount, together with previous payments of $221,432.55
represents 100% of the final contract amount of $246,035.05.
BACKGROUND:
The subject contract consisted of three traffic signal improvement
projects as follows:
* Traffic signal installation and modifications/interconnect
work at various intersections of Phase I and Phase II of
East Tustin
* Traffic signal modification at Red Hill and San Juan St.
* Flashing amber lights at Yorba/Amaganset and Prospect and
Beneta Way
The original contract bid for all three projects was $205,900.00
DISCUSSION:
These traffic signal improvements have now been completed by the
contractor, Steiny and Company, to the satisfaction of the Public Works
Department/Engineering Division.
The final contract amount for these projects was $246,035.05. This
represents a contract overrun of 19.49% over the original contact bid
amount. These extra costs primarily consisted or replacing the existing
underground conduits at Red Hill Avenue and San Juan Street and Browning
Avenue at Bryan Avenue which had deteriorated or were damaged by
subsequent roadway construction.
It is requested that the City Council accept the subject improvements
and authorize the notice of completion to be filed for recordation.
