HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC 7 TRAFFIC SIG IMPROV 8-20-90DATE: TO: FROM: AUGUST 15, 1990 WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER CONSENT CALENDAR NO. 7 8-20-90 Inter- Com PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS FOR TRAFFIC SIGNALS RECOMMENDATION: That the Tustin City Council adopt the attached resolution accepting works of improvement and authorize the recordation of the notice of completion for the traffic signal improvements. Assuming no claims or stop notices are filed, it is further recommended that 30 days after date of recordation of the notice of completion, the City Council authorize payment of the final 10% retention amount of $24,603.50. This amount, together with previous payments of $221,432.55 represents 100% of the final contract amount of $246,035.05. BACKGROUND: The subject contract consisted of three traffic signal improvement projects as follows: * Traffic signal installation and modifications/interconnect work at various intersections of Phase I and Phase II of East Tustin * Traffic signal modification at Red Hill and San Juan St. * Flashing amber lights at Yorba/Amaganset and Prospect and Beneta Way The original contract bid for all three projects was $205,900.00 DISCUSSION: These traffic signal improvements have now been completed by the contractor, Steiny and Company, to the satisfaction of the Public Works Department/Engineering Division. The final contract amount for these projects was $246,035.05. This represents a contract overrun of 19.49% over the original contact bid amount. These extra costs primarily consisted or replacing the existing underground conduits at Red Hill Avenue and San Juan Street and Browning Avenue at Bryan Avenue which had deteriorated or were damaged by subsequent roadway construction. It is requested that the City Council accept the subject improvements and authorize the notice of completion to be filed for recordation. Bob Leden ecker Director of Public Works/City Engineer 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11' 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 RESOLUTION NO. 90-112 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING WORKS OF IMPROVEMENT AND REPAIR, AND AUTHORIZING RECORDATION OF NOTICE OF COMPLETION FOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL IMPROVEMENTS AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS. WHEREAS, Steiny and Company, Inc., having a contract with the City of Tustin to construct the hereinafter described public work and improvement; and WHEREAS, the City Engineer has duly certified to the construction and completion of said public improvements herein- after mentioned in a manner satisfactory to the City Council of the City of Tustin; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that said contractor has completed said public improvement hereinafter more particularly described in accordance with the provisions of the contract documents, and the notice of completion and acceptance of said public work and improvement should be filed and payment of the balance due on said contract authorized in accordance with the contract documents. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Tustin that said public work and improvement be, and the same is hereby accepted. Said public work and improvement is more particulary described as follows: * Traffic signal installation and interconnect improvements at various locations in East Tustin * Traffic signal modification at Red Hill Avenue and San Juan Street * Flashing amber lights at Yorba/Amaganset and Prospect/ Beneta Way AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Engineer of the City of Tustin be, and is hereby authorized to execute and file a notice of completion and acceptance of said public work and improvement described herein as required by law.
