TO: WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION
SUBJECT: UTILITY UNDERGROUNDING - SOUTHEASTERLY CORNER OF NEWPORT AVENUE
AND MAIN STREET
RECOMMENDATION:
Receive and file.
BACKGROUND:
At a previous City Council meeting, staff was directed to review the
feasibility and cost of undergrounding overhead utilities to remove a
singular utility pole #1838150E at the southeasterly corner of Newport
Avenue and Main Street. This utility pole is located southerly of Main
Street and just northerly of the development currently under construction
at the southeasterly corner.
DISCUSSION:
The overhead utilities requested to be undergrounded span a distance of
approximately 125 feet. Southern California Edison Company regulations
under Rule 20A do not provide for any districts to be formed for overhead
utilities having a continuous distance of facilities to be undergrounded
less than 600 lineal feet.
The undergrounding of the 125 span of overhead facilities and the removal
of the one utility pole does not meet the minimum criteria of the Edison
Company's Rule 20A regulations and is not eligible for Edison Company
funding.
