HUSTON, CITY MANAGER OLD BUSINESS NO. 1 12-3-90 Inter - Com PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION SUBJECT: UTILITY POLE REMOVAL AT SOUTHEASTERLY CORNER OF MAIN STREET AND NEWPORT AVENUE RECOMMENDATION: Pleasure of the City Council. BACKGROUND: At a previous City Council meeting staff was directed to request Southern California Edison Company to provide a cost for the removal of one utility pole and the undergrounding of one span of overhead utility wires at the southeasterly corner of Main Street and Newport Avenue. As previously indicated, to be eligible for Rule 20A Funds (Edison Company Funding) a minimum of 600 lineal feet of overhead utilities needs to be placed underground. This particular location does not meet the minimum criteria for Edison Company Funding. If the Council desires to proceed with this utility undergrounding work, the project will require City funding. DISCUSSION: Edison Company has informed staff that the estimated cost for undergrounding these facilities would be $18,000. In the event the City desires to proceed with this utility undergrounding, it will be necessary for the City Council to authorize a supplemental 1990-91 budget appropriation in the amount of $21,600. This amount includes Edison Company's estimate and a 20% contingency factor. /Yi L C el Bob Ledendecker Director of Public Works/City Engineer BL: cc
