HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC 15 LOA W/O PAY 06-19-89· CONSENT CALENDAR E NO. 15 TO: WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION SUBJEGT: REQUEST FOR LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITHOUT PAY RECOMMENDATION: That the Tustin City Council at their meeting of June 19, 1989 grant Jeff Chen a leave of absence without pay of forty-one (41) working days from his employment with the City commencing on June 26, 1989 and continuing through August 21, 1989. BACKGROUND: A request has been received from Jeff Chen to take a leave of absence without pay from his employment with the City of Tustin for a period of forty-one (41) working days, commencing Monday, ~une 26, 1989 and continuing through ~onday, August. 21, 1989. Jeff is~currently assigned to the Engineering Division of the Public works Departmeqt as an Assistant CiVil Engineer. Jeff is currently on a 15-day general leave (June 5th through June 23rd) and is in Taipei, Taiwan with his father who is terminally ill with cancer. Attached· is a copy~of Jeff's request for the leave of absence. Section 8H(1)b of the City.. of Tustin Personnel Rules and Regulations allows the City Council, upon recommendation of the City Manager, to grant a leave of absence with or without pay in excess of 30 days for purposes deemed by the City Manager to be beneficial~to the City. Jeff is an asset to the City and performs an integral part of the duties of the Engineering Division, consequently, it would be in the best interest of the City to grant his request for a leave of absence. On monday, June 12th, doctors performed the surgery and found the cancer cells have spread to too big of area that doctors can no longer stop or control it. He~nce, doctors diagnosed Jeff's father has about 2-3 months to live. Jeff'S father is 80 years old. 'For these many years Jeff's been in the U.S., Jeff has not been fortune to spend much time with his father. Please grant my request so that Jeff can spend a little more time with his father.
