SUBJECT: AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF SIDEWALKS AND WHEELCHAIR
RAMPS, SB 821 PROJECT, 1988-89 FY
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council at their meeting of July 17,
1989 award the subject contract to Damon Construction Company, Gardena,
California, in the amount of $22,335.00.
BACKGROUND:
This project encompasses construction of sidewalks, curb and gutter and
22 wheelchair ramps at various locations throughout the city. This
project is being financed with SB 821 funds allocated for 1988-89 FY in
the amount of $14,580 and with unexpended interest from the same fund
in the amount of $5,840.
Four bids were received on June 27, 1989 and are summarized as follows:
Damon Construction Co., Gardena ............ $22,335.00
B-1 Enterprises Corp., Rancho Cucamonga .... $24,898.31
Bay District Paving Co., Gardena ........... $25,892.65
DeArmond Construction, Fontana ............. $32,599.75
The low bid is 11% over the engineer's estimate of $20,120.10. The
budgeted amount of $20,420.00 is less than the lowest bid by $1,915.00.
This difference will be financed with part of SB 821 funds allocated for
1989-90 FY.
