BACKGROUND: The attached is a consolidation of requests which has been received from various property owners regarding trees within the public-right-of-way. In all cases, with the exception of commercial areas, adjacent property owners have been surveyed and the results are so indicated. The trees will be removed and replaced by City crews. Replacement will be with a tree of acceptable species from the City's approved list, as stated in the specific recommendation. STAFF EVALUATION: The tree has caused repairable damage to sidewalk due to extensive root system. NEIGHBOR RESPONSE: Yes-4, No-O, No response-1. RECOMMENDATION: That the City, at their cost, remove tree and replace with a Crape Myrtal, including root barrier and deep watering system. STAFF EVALUATION: The tree has outgrown the minus three foot parkway, roots have caused repairable damage to surrounding City improvements. NEIGHBOR RESPONSE: Yes-3, 'No-O, No response-2. RECOMMENDATION: That the City, at their cost, remove tree and replace with a Southern Magnolia, including root barrier and deep watering system. STAFF EVALUATION: Tree has out grown parkway. Tree is starting to lift sidewalk and has caused curb displacement damage. NEIGHBOR RESPONSE: Yes-2, No-0, No response-3. RECOMMENDATION: That the City remove tree and replace with a Crape Myrtle including root barrier. Grind down any raised areas in sidewalk. RECOMMENDATION: That the City remove both Ficus Trees and .replace with Magnolias including root barriers. ESTIMATED COST: To meet request and recommendation cost is $411.00. . RECOMMENDATION: That the City remove the two ficus trees and replace with Crape Myrtles. ESTIMATED COST: To meet request and recommendation cost is $411.00. -7- STAFF REPORT CITY COUNCIL TREE REMOVAL REQUESTS APPLICANT: ADDRESS: TELEPHONE: Donald Wilson 1942 Pennington Ave. 730-0138 REQUEST: That the City remove one Ficus Tree, in parkway, at City expense with no replacement. STAFF EVALUATION: The tree has cuased repairable damage to sidewalk due to its root system. NEIGHBOR RESPONSE: Yes - 3, No - 0, No response - 2. RECOMMENDATION: That the City remove tree and replace with a Crape Myrtle including root barrier. ESTIMATED COST: To meet request and recommendation cost is $362.00. -8- STAFF REPORT CITY COUNCIL TREE REMOVAL REQUESTS APPLICANT: ADDRESS: TELEPHONE: Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth J. Vogel 13702 Farmington R~UEST: That the City remove one Carrotwood Tree, in parkway, at City expense. STAFF EVALUATION: This is a young healthy Carrotwood causing no apparent damage to curb, gutter or sidewalk. NEIGHBOR RESPONSE: No response taken. RECOMMENDATION: That the City leave the tree intact. ESTIMATED COST: To remove and replace with a Magnolia, with root barrier, would cost $375.00. O'Neill 1707 Stonehenge Drive REQUEST: That the City remove one Carrotwood Tree, in parkway, at City expense. STAFF EVALUATION: A healthy Carrotwood Tree with some exposed roots. Needs to be trimmed. NEIGHBOR RESPONSE: No response taken. RECOMMENDATION: That the City trim, root prune and leave the tree in place. ESTIMATED COST: To trim and root prune cost is $200.00. To remove and replace with a Crape Myrtle or Magnolia, with root barriers would be $375.00. -10- STAFF REPORT CITY COUNCIL TREE REMOVAL REQUESTS APPLICANT: ADDRESS: TELEPHONE: Al D'Annunzio 14332 Cloverbrook Dr. 731-1076 That the City root prune or remove one Camphor Tree, in parkway, at City expense. STAFF EVALUATION: This is a healthy Camphor Tree with an extensive root system that is starting to put pressure on the sidewalk. NEIGHBOR RESPONSE: No respone taken. RECOMMENDATION: That the City leave this tree intact as it has recently been trimmed and root pruned. ESTIMATED COST: To remove and replace with a smaller Camphor Tree with root barrier is $400.00. -11- STAFF REPORT CITY COUNCIL TREE REMOVAL REQUESTS APPLICANT: ADDRESS: TELEPHONE: Cecilia Novella 13591 Woodland Drive 73O-6747 REQUEST: That the City remove one Tristania, in parkway, and repalce with a Palm Tree at City expense. STAFF EVALUATION: This is a healthy Tristania causing no damage to property. NEIGHBOR RESPONSE: No response taken. RECOMMENDATION: That the City not remove this tree. ESTIMATED COST: To remove Tristania and replace with a small palm would cost $375.OO. -12- STAFF REPORT CITY COUNCIL TREE REMOVAL REQUESTS APPLICANT: ADDRESS: TELEPHONE: Arnold D. Moore 1322 Veeh Drive 544-1461 REQUEST: That the City remove one Carrotwood Tree, in parkway, at City expense. STAFF EVALUATION: A healthy Carrotwood Tree with an extensive root system. NEIGHBOR RESPONSE: No response taken. RECOMMENDATION: That the City leave this tree intact at this time. When tree appears to be causing damage allow it to be removed. The tree was trimmed on July 24, 1989. ESTIMATED COST: Remove and replace with a young Carrotwood or Myrtle and root barrier would cost $315.00. -13- STAFF REPORT CITY COUNCIL TREE REMOVAL REQUESTS APPLICANT: ADDRESS: TELEPHONE: Frank DiFonzo 17672 Limetree Way REQUEST: That the City remove one Ficus Tree, in parkway, at City expense. STAFF EVALUATION: This tree has outgrown the parkway and has an extensive root system. The tree is leaning towards residents property. NEIGHBOR RESPONSE: No response taken. RECOMMENDATION: That the City remove this tree and replace with a Crape Myrtle with a root barrier system. ESTIMATED COST: To remove and replace with a Crape Myrtle with root barrier would cost $400.00. -14-
