WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION
SUBJECT: COUNTY OF ORANGE AGREEMENT NO. D89-110
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Tustin City Council at their meeting of August 7, 1989 approve
Agreement No. 89-110 which provides for the county to adjust certain
water valve boxes to final street grades and authorize the Mayor to
execute said agreement.
BACKGROUND:
The County of Orange will be resurfacing certain streets within the
unincorporated county area within the Tustin Water Service area. A
result of this street resurfacing project will be the need to adjust
approximately sixty-five (65) water valve boxes to the new street
grades. The county, at the request of the city, has agreed to include
these adjustments within their contract, but subject to city reimburse-
ment of the cost of said work to the county. The estimated cost for
each of these adjustments is $176.00 per location, for a total estimated
cost of $11,440.00.
It is extremely important that this work be completed in a timely
manner so that access to the valves is available at all times. If the
water service .crews were to undertake this work, it would have to be
done on a time-available basis and would take up to 3 to 4 months to
complete.
DISCUSSION:
The attached agreement is the same format that has been utilized by the
city and county on previous water valve box adjustment projects and
provides for the county to include the required adjustments within their
street surfacing contract.
The estimated cost of $176.00 per location is comparable to what we have
paid on previous projects and to what we would estimate the current day
cost to be.
Funding in the amount of $11,440.00 will be charged to the Water Service
Operations account number 7315 (mainline maintenance).
