HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC 11 TREE REMOVALS 09-05-89TO: FROM: SUBJECT: WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/FIELD SERVICES REQUEST FOR TREE REMOVALS RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council, at their regular meeting of September 5, 1989, approve the Public Works Department's recommendations on tree removal request, which are more specifically as follows: LOCATION TYPE RECOMMENDATION 17652 Limetree Way 14551 Cherrywood Lane 14712 Buckingham Place Centennial Park 14662 Cheshire Place 13772 Palace Way Ficus Approve Request Magnolia Approve Request Pine Approve Request Pine Approve Request Oak Approve Request Tristania Deny Request BACKGROUND: Attached, as an exhibit, is a list of tree removal requests which were received by the Public Works Department through August 21, 1989. The requests are for the removal of trees located in the public right of way. Each location has been investigated by a member of the City's tree maintenance staff. Staff has rendered a recommendation, prepared cost estimates and in residential areas, surveyed adjacent property owners to asses neighborhood opinion. This information is contained in the specific request tabulated in the attached exhibit. Trees approved for removal by Council shall be removed and replaced by City crews. Replacements will be with a tree of acceptable species from the City's approved tree list. The two ficus trees have outgrown the parkway and are causing extensive root damage. Roots are encroaching into the water meter box and other utilities. . Yes - 4, No - 1, no response - 0. That the request be approved. That the trees be replaced with Liquid Amber's planted with root barriers and deep watering irrigation systems. ESTIMATED COST: The estimated cost to remove the two ficus trees, grind the stumps and replace with Liquid Ambers is $450.00. The tree was planted too close to the water meter and the root system is encroaching onto the meter and meter box. Yes - 3, No - 0; no response - 2. That the request be approved. There is not sufficient room for a tree at this location. The tree should not be replaced. The estimated cost to remove the tree and grind the stump is $220.00. The root system has cracked the concrete block wall on Mr. Storey's property. NEIGHBOR RESPONSE: N/A RECOMMENDATION: ESTIMATED COST: That the request be approved. The tree should be replaced with shrubs as other trees exist in close proximity. The estimated cost to remove the tree, grind the stump and replace with shrubs is $260.00. The tree is located very close to the pool area and creates constant maintenance problems for the association. N/A That the request be approved. The tree should be removed and not replaced. Other trees are in close proximity and provide adequate coverage. The estimated cost to remove the tree and grind the stump is $260.00. Barsanti 13772 Palace Way Tustin, CA 92680 That the City remove a Tristania tree in the Parkway. The Tristania tree is a healthy specimen. It is not disturbing any improvements. Yes - 4, No - 0, no response - 1 That the request be denied. The Tristania tree is a healthy specimen with many more years of life remaining. since it is not disturbing any improvements, it should not be removed. The tree should be trimmed only. The estimated cost to trim the tree is $80.00.
