BACKGROUND
Councilman Kelly raised fire safety concerns at two locations at the August 21,
1989 Council meeting.
An investigative inspection was performed by both the Orange County Fire
Department and the Building Division and the findings were as follows-
14982 Redhill - The Barn restaurant has a heavy timber stairway which leads from
the f'o~erI' up tO the mezzanine bar area. There is also a second exitway at the
far end of the mezzanine as required per ~he code. The stairs are allowed to be
wood since the building is fully equipped with automatic fire sprinklers. Both
building and fire inspectors determined that stair construction is legal per the
code.
275 E. Sixth St - The Tustln Gardens Senior Citizen complex is comprised of a
three story,~O-O unit apartment complex. All stairway exit corridors were found
to be of one-hour rated construction per the requirements of the building code.
No wooden stairs were found to exist at the site. It was noted that all units
were equipped with individual alarm stations which are monitored by management
around-the-clock. The inspector found no problems with this structure nor the
stairways.
