CITY MANAGER FROM: POLICE DEPARTMENT NEW BUSINESS N0. 5 10-2-89 lntee-Com SUBJECT: TUSTIN AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY - UNIT DONATION Recommendation The City Council declare surplus one marked Police Department patrol vehicle and authorize its donation to the Tustin Area Historical Society. Background b On November 7, 1988, the Tustin Area Historical Society requested the Police Department donate an obsolete patrol vehicle for creation of a "hands-on" Police Department display. This display will become a part of the Tustin Area Museum (see attached letter from John Rose, Display Coordinator). Old patrol cars slated to be sold as surplus are now available. One of these vehicles with obsolete appurtenant equipment, such as light bars, cage, and interior racks, will meet the needs of the Historical Society. Additionally, conversion will be the responsibility of the Historical Society. The City Attorney will. be directed appropriate Hold Harmless Agreements. W. During the course of one of our planning meetings the concept of utilizing an obsolete .patrol car as part of the exhibit, was discussed. It was suggested that we make a formal request to the police department to see if such a vehicle was available.
