Community Cablevision Company rate increase
RECOMMENDATION:
Receive and fi 1 e.
BACKGROUND:
As a matter of courtesy, September 1, 1989, Denise Yaru, General Manager for
Community Cablevision Company wrote and mailed a letter advising the City of
the company's intent to increase cable rates effective October 6, 1989.
Unfortunately, this letter was not received by the City until October 3, 1989.
The rate increase is predicate~ on the increase in operating expenses
experienced by the company. Rate increases are permitted by the Cable Act of
1984; and, the Act also precludes local agency rate regulatien.
The letter to the Council and a copy of the rate increase letter sent to
Community Cablevision customers is attached.

Dear Community Cablevision Subscriber.
We at Community Cablevision work hard to provide you with the quality of service and
programming which you have come to expect. While we strive to keep rates at a minimum, the ever
increasing costs of programming, labor and technical equipment make it necessary to implement a
rate adjustment effective October 6, 1989.
The new rates will be as follows:
Old Rate New Rate
1-Star cablevision service
3-Star cablevision service without remote control
3-Star cablevision wi.th remote control
$11.50 $12.50
$,17.95 $20.70
$22.45 $23.45
. .
Supplemental charges including all premium serxiices and additional outlets will remain at their
current prices, and as you probably know, we reduced the price of the SportsChannel by $2.00 per
month in' July. Now you can enjoy the Dodgers, Angels, L.A. Clippers and more for just $9.95.
We appreciate the opportunity to serve you and our community, and we are committed to bringing
you the best programming that cable has to offer.
If you have any questions regarding the rate adjustment, please call our Customer Service
Department at 72.0-2020.
Thank you for your continued patronage.
Sincerely,
Denise Yaru
