MAIN STREET RECOMMENDATION: Receive and file. BACKGROUND: The City Council at their meeting of October 2, 1989 requested an update on the status of landscaping/beautification of the Prospect Avenue frontage of the water plant facility located at 235 W. Main Street. The 1989-90 water capital improvement budget included a project entitled "Beautify/Landscape Water Facility at 235 Main Street" in the amount of $4500.00. Staff has completed a conceptual plan for the requested improvements along the Prospect Avenue frontage of the facility. These improvements would include the following: ~ · 1. Removal and replacement of old driveway approach and sidewalk. 2. New sidewalk to be constructed adjacent to the curb and is proposed to be 7.0 feet wide as measured from the curbface. 3. A 30" wide landscaped' area would remain between the back edge of the sidewalk and the water plant walls. · Landscaping would consist of four 24" box trees in treewells adjacent to curb and Hibiscus plants and ground cover between the sidewalk and wall. Additionally, an automatic irrigation system would be provided to support the landscape areas. It is anticipated that the concrete work would be included in the City's annual contract for sidewalk and curb repairs and the landscape and irrigation work would be done with City staff. A tentative schedule for project completion is Spring 1990. Bob Ledendecker Director of Public Works/City Engineer BL:mv
