DATE: NOVEMBER Inter- Corn
TO: WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION
SUBJECT: WARNER AVENUE BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION - STATUS REPORT
This report will provide an update of the entire bridge demolition and
reconstruction project to date beginning with the initial closure of
Warner Avenue on May 8, 1989. The initial duration of closure was
estimated at seven months, which would set the date of opening of Warner
Avenue at December 8, 1989.
During the course of c6nstruction, the project ran approximately two
weeks ahead of schedule. This time was lost during September/October due
to an equipment breakdown during the concrete placement on the bridge
deck, or riding surface.
Caltrans staff is now estimating a Warner Avenue opening date of December
20, 1989, which extends the duration of road closure from 7 to 7-1/2
months. These dates are subject to no delays due to inclement weather.
The two-week delay is well within reason on a project of this complexity
and size. After Warner Avenue is reopened on or about December 20, 1989,
work on the bridge and related roadway areas wiI1 continue, but will not
impede the flow of traffic on Warner Avenue.
