BACKGROUND: The City of Tustin has entered into District Agreement No. 12-028 with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) which provides for Tustin to complete highway and traffic signal system improvements on First .Street, Yorba Street and Irvine Boulevard. The improvements are intended to mitigate anticipated adverse traffic impacts that will result from work by Caltrans on Phase II of the project to reconstruct the I-5/SR-55 Interchange. The plans for the improvements are under design, but it will be several weeks-before a construction contract for the work can be executed. Because of the extended lead time necessary for manufacture and delivery of poles for the traffic signals to be installed, it would be much faster, and in the best interest of the City, to accelerate the purchase of the traffic signal poles and obtain them under a separate materials bid. The poles will be held in stock for installation by a contractor under a standard public works construction contract. It is estimated that the cost of the poles will be $15,000. In accordance' with the provisions of District Agreement No. 12-028, the City will be reimbursed the cost of the poles by Caltrans. Bob Ledendecker Director of Public Works/City Engineer BL:RJ:mv
