HomeMy WebLinkAboutC.C. #10 12-04-89 Traffic SignaCONSENT CALENDAR NO. 10 TO: WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/CITY ENGINEER SUBJ£OT: AUTHORIZATION TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL IMPROVE- MENTS ON IRVINE BLVD., NEWPORT AVE., EDINGER AVE. & RED HILL AVE~ , · RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council, by resolution, approve plans and specifications for subject project and direct the City Clerk to advertise for bids upon receipt of approval to do so by the Director of Public Works/City Engineer. BACKGROUND: The City of Tustin has entered into District Agreement No. 12-039 with Caltrans. The agreement provides for Tustin to install traffic signal improvements on city streets to 'increase the efficiency of the signal system in moving vehicles seeking alternate routes from the I-5 widening construction area. The agreement provides for .Caltrans to reimburse Tustin for the cost of the mitigation work proposed. The project cannot proceed without approval of the plans and specifica- tions by Caltrans, and that approval may be received while the Council is dark in December 1989. As it is in the best interest of the City to proceed with the project as soon as possible, prior approval of the project by the Council is requested. The engineer's estimate for the project is $209,000. The project will have no financial impact on the City's General Fund. Bob Ledendecker Director of Public Works/City Engineer BL:mv 1 5 6 ? 8 9 10 11 12 13 15. 16 17 18 19 20 21 2~ 25 9.6 2g RESOLUTION NO. 89-187 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF TRAFFIC SIGNAL IMPROVEMENTS ON IRVINE BOULEVARD, NEWPORT AVE., EDINGER AVE., AND RED HILL AVE., AND DIRECTING CITY CLERK TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS WHEREAS, it is the intention of the City Council of the City of Tustin, California to contract construction of traffic signal improvements on Irvine Boulevard, Newport Avenue, Edinger Avenue and Red Hill Avenue; and WHEREAS, the City Engineer has presented plans and specifications for the construction of said work; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the plans and specifications presented by the City Engineer be and are hereby approved as the plans and specifications for: Construction of traffic signal improvements on Irvine BOulevard, Newport Avenue, Edinger Avenue and Red Hill AvenUe BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to advertise as required by law for the receipt of sealed bids or proposals for the doing of the work specified in the aforesaid plans and specifications; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this project is categorically exempt from the requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act; Class I: Existing Facilities.
