FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEpARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION
SUBJEGT: MULTI-HAZARD FUNCTIONAL PLAN
During the past SlX months, more me has been devoted to emergency
preparedness function. The Director of Public Works has set a goal to
greatly accelerate work in this area. The Department is in the process
of shifting work loads to accomplish this goal; and, hopefully, by the
end of July, the Administrative Assistant/Emergency Services Coordinator
will be expending at least fifty percent of the work hours on this
program.
The Administrative Assistant will be meeting with the State Office of
Emergency Services (OES) representative on Thursday, July 14th to begin a
plan for developing the "desktop issue" seminars from which the City
should be able to begin development of the Multi-Hazard Functional 'Plan
and in-house training. After this meeting, more detailed information
will be available.
So that the writing of a plan geared specifically for Tustin can move
more quickly, we have been working with neighboring cities (Orange,
Irvine, Santa Ana and Anaheim) who have plans in place that are highly
regarded at both State and Federal levels. These agencies have been
considerate enough to share their draft plans and community programs
with us so that we do not need to totally re-invent the wheel; and in
addition, they are being most generous with their staff's time to make
our process effective more quickly.
A more specific and comprehensive report, will be prepared for Council
once the initial meeting(s) with OES are completed.
