PROCLAMATION - NATIONAL D.A.R.E. DAY
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council show its continued
support of the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.)
Program by declaring September 15, 1988, as Tustin's official
"D.A.R.E. Day" and by flying the D.A.R.E. flag on that day.
Background
September 15, 1988, has been proclaimed "National D.A.R.E. Day"
by the United States Congress. Special events have been planned
in Washington, D.C. for September 15 to help draw national
attention to the D.A.R.E. Program.
Kentucky Fried Chicken, the national sponsor of the D.A.R.E.
Program, has authorized its local franchises to become involved
with local programs in order to focus attention on this united
drug abuse prevention effort. A representative of Tuscin's
Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise will attend the City Council
meeting of September 6, 1988, to present the official D.A.R.E.
flag to the City of Tustin. Officer Mark Zimmerman, Tustin's
first D.A.R.E. officer, will also attend the Council meeting.
