HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC 10 TAC-1 REQUEST 09-06-88TO: William A. Huston, City Manager
FROM: A~ministrative Services Department
SUBJECT: TI[C- 1 Request
RECOMMENDATION:
That Council create a new line item in the 1988/89 Non-Departmental
Budget and appropriate $2,000 for the purpose of maintaining the
TAC-1 community service effort for senior adults in Tustin.
BACKGROUND:
The TAC-1 group has contributed a great deal to the safety of our
community by working with Explorer Scouts to install smoke
detectors in the homes of senior citizens. This item has not
appeared in the budget as a continuing line item, and as a result
the TAC-1 group has had to come to the Council from time to time
to request funding. Now it appears that some batteries in several
of the longer term installations need to be replaced, and there is
no provision for that in previous Council actions. Since this is
a safety item which utilizes volunteer TAC-1 members in cooperation
with volunteer Explorer Scouts, it would seem a wise use of City
money to make this appropriation in order that TAC-1 may continue
its worthy efforts in our community.
Regarding the problem with code violations, the County Fire
Department is following up with the appropriate authorities. In
addition, a letter is being drafted for the Explorer Scouts to use
as identification when visiting residents.
