HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: COI~NITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT SUBJECT: AUTHORIZE PURCHASE OF DONOR RECOGNITION/FOUNDERS' WALL AND DEDICATION PLAQUES, llJSTIN AREA SENIOR CENTER RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that the City Council at the September 6, 1988, meeting authorize the purchase of two bronze cast plaques for the Tustin Area Senior Center in the amount of $3,263.02 from La Haye Bronze, Incorporated of Corona. BACKGROUND At the August 1, 1988, meeting the City Council authorized bids for two bronze plaques for donor recognition and the dedication of the Tustin Area Senior Center. The donor recognition plaque will recognize those who contributed financial support for the construction of the Center, and the dedication plaque will include the City Council, The Tustin Area Senior Center Fund, Inc. Board of Directors, the Senior Center Steering Committee and the consultants. .Both plaques are scheduled to be delivered and installed March 1, 1989. The building is scheduled to be completed the first part of March, barring any further delays. Tentatively the dedication is set for sometime early Spring 1989. Construction hasn't progressed enough to commit to an exact date for the dedication. Staff will advise Council of the date as soon as possible. The actual cost for fabrication and installation of the plaques is well below the original estimate of between $8,000 and $12,000. DISCUSSION Bid packages were sent to seven monument companies in Southern California. Only two companies returned bids. Bids for subject project were open August 24, 1988 at 10:00 A.M. and were received as follows: La Haye Bronze, Incorporated of Corona ..................... $3,263.02 Gorham Bronze, City of Industry ............................ $5,644.0(l Staff has checked references for La Haye Bronze and find that they are a reputable firm. La Haye Bronze has done similar plaques for the University of Southern California, the State of California and the City of Los Angeles. Recreation Superintendent Royleen A.
