SUBJECT:

FRED WAKEFIELD, ACTING CHIEF OF POLICE
COUNCIL CONCERN - TUSTIN MEADOWS
At the September 6, 1988, Council Meeting a Tustin Meadows
resident, Mrs. Jeri Beres, expressed concern over increased
criminal activity in Tustin Meadows. Her specific concerns
were:
1. Increase in thefts, burglaries, and prowler calls.
2. Increase in the number 9f disturbance calls.
3. Increase in traffic accidents due to speeders and
stop sign violaters.
..
~e compared the statistics from March:throughAugust 1987 to
those of the same time period in 1988· There~was an 11 percent
increase in reported crime (from 62 to 69); a 33 ' percent
decrease in.disturbance calls (from 93 to 62);-and an 80 percent
increase in traffic accidents, (from 10 to 18).
. .
We have increased our patrols in the Tustin Meadows area. From
September 6 through 13 we issued 56 citations--7 for speed, 29
for stop sign violations, and 20 for other moving violations.
Of those cited, 30 (or 54 percent) were Tustin Meadows
residents; 13 (or 23 percent), were City of Tustin residents; and
13 (or 23 percent) were non-City residents. No traffic
accidents were reported during this time frame.
During this same period there was one reported theft and no
reported ~isturbances. We will continue to monitor the
situation.
