HomeMy WebLinkAboutNB 6 TREE REMOVALS 11-07-88TO: FROM: SUBJECT: , WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/FIELD SERVICES DIVISION REQUEST FOR TREE REMOVALS RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council approve the Public Works Departments' recommendation on tree removals as shown on the attached exhibit. BACKGROUND: The attached is a consolidation of requests which have been received from various property owners regarding trees within the public-right-of-way. In all cases, with-the exception.of commercial areas, adjacent property owners .have been surveyed and the results are so indicated. All trees will be removed and replaced by City crews. acceptable species from the City's approved recommendation. STAFF EVALUATION: Roots from the two Ficus trees are raising the sidewalk causing a tripping hazard for pedestrians, the curb is also damaged causing water not to flow past the property. Maintenance of the adjacent lawn is difficult for the owner to maintain. NEIGHBOR RESPONSE: Yes 5, No 0, No Response, 0. RECOMMENDATION: Trees be removed and replaced at City expense. Replacement will be two Magnolia trees planted with a root barrier and deep watering system. ESTIMATED COST: Staff estimates the cost of labor,' equipment and material to comply With this request to be, $580.00. APPLICANT: Dave Sizer ADDRESS: 14322 Heatherfield Drive TELEPHONE: 838-0318 ~ That the City remove one large Ficus tree from the parkway in front of his property. ~TAFF EVALUATION' The sidewalk and curb have been repaired within the last three weeks due to the trees extensive root system. RESPONSE: Yes 3, No 0, No Response, 2. RECOMMENDATION: That the tree be removed and replaced at City expense. Replacement will be an Italian Stone Pine planted with a root barrier and deep watering system. RECOMMENDATION: That the tree should be removed and replaced at City expense. Replacement will be one Magnolia tree planted with a root barrier and deep watering system. RECOMMENDATION: That the tree be removed and replaced at City expense. Replacement will be a Camphor tree, planted with a root barrier and deep watering system. Recommend that the followina removal be denied: APPLICANT: Mr. and Mrs. John Marcinkevicz ADDRESS: 13602 Malena Drive TELEPHONE: 544-9263 That the City remove one small Holly Oak tree from the parkway. STAFF EVALUATION: The tree has caused no damage to surrounding improvements or utility services. NEIGHBOR RESPONSE: Yes 2, No 0 No. Response, 3 RECOMMENDATION: That the tree not be removed. The complaint of the homeower of seed pod droppings can be controlled by timely pruning of the tree foliage before the pods mature and drop. E~TIMATED COST: Staff estimates the cost of labor, equipment and materials to comply with this request to be, $85.00. The estimate of the staff recommendation is estimated'lo be, $40.00. RECOMMENDATION: The tree should not be remOved but trimmed, and a root barrier and deep watering system installed. ESTIMATED COST: Staff estimates.the cost of labor, equipment and materials to comply with this request to be, $180.00.
