TO: FROM: SUBJECT: WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/FIELD SERVICES DIVISION REQUEST FOR TREE REMOVALS ,, J RECOMMENDATION' That the City Council approve the Public Works Departments' recommendation on tree removals as shown on the attached exhibit. BACKGROUND: The attached is a consolidation of requests which have been received from various property owners regarding trees within the public-right-of-way. In all cases, with the exception of commercial areas, adjacent property owners have been surveyed and the -results are so indicated. All trees will be removed and replaced by City crews. acceptable species from the City's recommendation. STAFF EVLAUATION: The sidewalk and curb have been repaired within the last two months due to the tree's extensive root system. NEIGHBOR RESPONSE: Yes 1, No 4, No Repsonse 0. RECOMMENDATION: That the tree be removed and replaced at City expense. Replacement will be one Camphor tree planted with a root barrier and deep watering system.. ESTIMATED COST: Staff estimates the cost of labor, equipment and materials to comply with this request to be, $145.00. APPLICANT: ADDRESS: TELEPHONE: J. Baker 1872 Hampshire Rd. 838-0318 REQUEST: That the City remove one mature Ficus tree from the parkway in front of this property. ~TAFF EVALUATION: Roots from the Ficus tree are raising the sidewalk causing a tripping'hazard for pedestrians, the curb is also damaged causing water not to flow past the property. Maintenance of the adjacent lawn is difficult for the owner to maintain. NEIGHBOR RESPONSE: Yes 4, No 0, No Repsonse, 1. RECOMMENDATION: That the tree be removed and replaced at City expense. Replacement will be with a Crepe Myrtle tree planted with a root barrier and deep watering system. STAFF EVLAUATION'. The Ficus tree has cause repairable damage to the sidewalk and curbing. NEIGHBOR RESPONSE: The tree is on Mc Fadden Avenue which is in a commercial area. no responses were taken. RECOMMENDATION: Remove the tree and replace it with a Tristiana to conform with the easterly end of Mc Fadden Avenue. ESTIMATED COST: Staff estimates the cost of labor, equipment and materials to comply with this request to be, $290.00.
